The Polynesian was commissioned towards the end of the 19th Century and had a length of 152m and a gross tonnage of 6,659 tons. In August 1918, The Polynesian arrived in Malta and was subsequently torpedoed by a U-boat and sunk. Today it lies at the bottom of a sandy bay at a maximum depth of 63m, accessible by boat.
